Skincare myths to be debunked

Happy New Year Lovelies 🎆🎊

Cheers to more life, success, good health, positive vibes, happiness and wealth 🥂.

Over the years, there are a lot of skincare advice being thrown around on social media- and I must say, not all are true. These advice could be dragging your skincare routine down, yet you blaming it on certain skincare products not being efficient.

“You don’t need to exfoliate” , “Products without fragrance works better” , “Sunscreen isn’t compulsory” , “Dirty skin cause acne”, are some of the most popular myths we’ve seen or heard. Here are 7 skincare myths, debunked.

MYTH #1. DRINKING WATER WILL MAKE YOUR SKIN GLOW.

Drinking adequate water is good for your overall health and body system. There is actually no scientific explanation or evidence that drinking water improves your skin hydration. Excess water goes out of your body through urine. You tend to urinate a lot consuming excess water hence the phrase “drink water and mind your business” as you will be too busy peeing 😂

MYTH #2. YOU HAVE ACNE BECAUSE YOU DON’T WASH YOUR FACE CORRECTLY OR YOU HAVE A DIRTY SKIN.

AcneAcne occurs when your skin becomes blocked from sebum, bacteria, dead skin and inflammation. You can’t just get acne just because you don’t wash your face correctly. You can also have the cleanest skin and still develop acne. Acne develops below the surface of the skin not caused by dirt or bacteria on our skin complexion.

MYTH#3. EXPENSIVE SKINCARE BRANDS IS MORE EFFECTIVE THAN INEXPENSIVE SKINCARE BRANDS.

The Ordinary

This is false sis! Over recent years, we’ve seen brands like The Ordinary, Cosrx, Mario Badescu, prove to us that we don’t have to break the bank to have a good skincare regimen. Luxury brands makes you believe the more expensive the product, the more effective they will be and that’s a lie. These inexpensive brands put lot of work into the product effectiveness rather than the packaging and adverts.

MYTH #4. YOU CAN SKIP SUNSCREEN WHEN IT’S NOT SUNNY.

If you thought SPF was only a necessity on days when you’re hanging out at the beach, it’s time to get your head out of the clouds! – L’Oréal. The only time you don’t need to wear sunscreen is when there is no sun, and that’s at night. Just because you can’t see the sun doesn’t mean the UV rays are not present . And it’s the UV rays that are doing the damage. A sunscreen with sun protection factor of 30 is recommended for all.

MYTH #5. YOU DON’T NEED TO EXFOLIATE.

Of course, everyone needs gentle exfoliation. Exfoliating removes dead skin cells clogging the pores and brighten skin complexion. It also improves absorption of other products into skin. Limit exfoliation to twice a week and be gentle about it. If you are using a chemical peel, limit to twice a month and chemical peels contain higher concentration of chemical exfoliants.

MYTH #6. YOU NEED TO FOLLOW THE 10-STEP K-BEAUTY REGIMEN OR USE TONS OF PRODUCTS.

You don’t need to use lot of products on your skin. Using tons of products in your regimen can do more harm than good, especially when you using different brands in a regimen. Find the right produces that works for your skin type and concerns.

MYTH #7. SERUMS ARE NOT NECESSARILY IMPORTANT.
