13 THINGS I LEARNT ON MY SKINCARE JOURNEY

I wasn’t always the skincare type as I relied on my genes. I was more of the makeup person during my teenage years, using cheap and toxic makeup, skipping sunscreen, not eating healthy and all. Sure, I had occasional blackheads and break outs, but nothing that serious. Here are thirteen (13) things I learnt on my skincare journey that will help your skin in one way or the other.

Over the last three years, I’ve literally dedicated my life to learning about beauty and skincare, and now I can proudly say I’m at peace and confident with my skin. From trying tons of beauty products and experimenting with everything, to watching vlogs from skincare experts which has given me a ton of knowledge, and I’ve discovered so much about how to treat skin for it to feel happy and healthy.

#1. You don’t need tons of products.

Don’t be too harsh on your skin with a lot of products. Your skincare routine doesn’t necessarily have to be a 10-step routine. Find out what works best for your skin and stick to it.

#2. Find out what works for you. It’s definitely not as easy task but it will be worth it in the end. The product your friend swears by might not work wonders for you skin. We all have different skin types and skin concerns. Listen to your skin

Pat your skincare product onto your face

#3. Pat your skincare product onto your face. Patting is more gently than rubbing in products. Rubbing could cause friction on skin and makes it prone to irritation. Not only does patting deliver a concentrated dose of product into skin but it pushes the product deep into the skin.

#4. Manage stress. The key to a good life is the ability to manage stress, it works for your skin too. Stress impacts on our skin, age, and weight. How I manage stress is by walking long distance, listening to contemporary music, self-meditation, and taking a break from all social media platforms. It might be weird but it makes me sane.

Eat healthy

#5. Eat and Drink Healthy. There’s this saying that your skin is what you eat. There no how to achieve a great skin of your diet sucks. Avoid processed foods and drink plenty of water.

Layer your Skincare Products Accordingly

#6. Layer your products properly.
Making sure you apply your skincare products in the right order is essential! That way, ingredients will be able to penetrate into skin better and makes product more effective.

#7. Sunscreen is important. The importance of wearing sunscreen daily to help protect skin from sun damages should not be underrated. Never skip sunscreen!

#8. Moisturize! I’ve heard some ladies with oily skin type say moisturizing isn’t for them. Sis, Hell no! Hydration is everything, as your skin gets oilier, you need to hydrate it with moisturizer that targets your skin concerns. Be it a dry/oily/sensitive skin type, you skin needs the moisture.

Don’t touch your face

#9. Avoid touching your face. Not only do you have to avoid touching your face as it prevent breakouts, you also need to observe personal hygiene when it comes to your phones.

Our phones carries more bacteria’s than toilet seats, I avoid receiving a call with peoples phone by placing the call on speaker. I always clean my phone and it case with my toner every day.

#10. Try out Drugstore brands. Most of us assume or conclude skincare is expensive. To be honest, it’s not. A good skincare routine doesn’t have to cost you a whole bank. There’re so many amazing drugstore products and affordable brands with awesome formulas.

Your neck skincare is important

#11. Don’t ignore your neck. Neglecting the neck area is one of the most common skincare mistakes people make. Make sure you continue your entire skincare routine down your neck.

#12. Don’t skip the supplements and antioxidants. Sometimes we do not always get sources of nutrients like vitamins and minerals from our food as I’m sure we can be quite selective when it comes to food. Supplements like Vitamin D, C, Probiotics etc. supports our skin.

Vitamin C, E and Niacinamide are one of the strongest antioxidants that protects your skin from environmental stress, reduces aging, brighten skin complexion and improves skin texture.

#13. Your skin type will change. As you get older, you will notice your skin is constantly changing and adapting to its environment. It’s not only important to switch up your skincare during seasons but also according to your age. It’s important to take the time to examine the changes in your skin as you get older, so you can cater to your skin’s developing needs
